Rail Trip - Wow!
December 21, 2008
Steve Thygersen

Only a dozen or so times in history has a horse broken their maiden in their debut with a triple digit Beyer Speed Figure.
The latest was Rail Trip, a late starting son of Jump Start (A.P. Indy) out of Sweet Trip (Carson City) who ran a sizzling
102 in his debut, a 6 furlong Maiden Special Weight on November 7th.

He was back yesterday in a 6.5 furlong N1X Allowance against a pretty nice field of horses. The result was the same, a
geared down 4 length win in 1:13/4 (the track record was recently set by speedster Gayego on November 30th in 1:13/1.
I don't think there is a lot of question that record would have fallen had Valdivia had him at full power down the stretch. He
received a BSF of 101 for his effort.

Carson City is not exactly a stamina influence, but this one could be effective out to 9 furlongs. His run today and his
debut run were both professional affairs, pretty unique for an inexperienced colt. Let's see what Ron Ellis and Jay Em
Ess Stables have on the docket for him. He may have some distance limitations, but man is he fun to watch.

The SoCal gang is lucky this one wasn't a month farther ahead of schedule or they would have their hands full in the
Grade 1 Malibu next week. It will be interesting where he goes next, there really aren't a ton of sprint races scheduled -
the Sunshine Millions is an interesting possibility.

Rail Trip was bred in Kentucky by Donarra Thoroughbeds, LLC, is owned by Jay and Samantha Siegel's Jay Em Ess
Stables and is trained by Ron Ellis.
